A GUIDE TO THE UNDERWATER WORLD

Those who love the underwater world can enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Protected Portofino Marine Area, a stretch of sea that provides a very rich natural heritage.
A true paradise for divers in possession of all types of licenses, from the first level to the technical ones
for particularly deep dives.

Backdrops to be discovered also for underwater photography enthusiasts, who will find exciting scenarios, lights, colors. A journey among yellow and red Gorgonians, madrepores, sponges, red coral and a multitude of fish species: moray eels, conger eels, gilthead breams, snappers, large brown groupers, barracudas, scorpion fish and, especially in the summer season, sunfish, amberjacks, tuna and monkfish and if you are lucky
it is not uncommon to encounter dolphins.

For lovers of wreck diving, there are 4: Mohawk Deer, inside the AMP and Cargo Armato, Bettolina Jorn, KT Fighter-submarines, towards Sestri Levante.

REGULATIONS AND SITES

Day and night dives, being in the Marine Area (A), must be carried out with diving centers.

There are 23 sites of the AMP and all of them are equipped with a mooring buoy from which the dive starts:

THE PROTECTED PORTOFINO MARINE AREA

Between Camogli and Santa Margherita, around the promontory of the same name, extends the Protected Portofino Marine Area, a natural heritage of biodiversity and submerged cliffs that rapidly descend to great depths, favoring a wealth of very rare microhabitats in the Mediterranean sea.
The coast is enchanting, the crystal clear sea, a scenario that creates excitement both above and below the sea.

The AMP is divided into 3 zones, A, B, C with different regulations regarding accessibility:

INTEGRAL RESERVE AREA A:
it extends for 1.2 km and is limited to the Cala Dell'Oro cove. Here, any access is prohibited.

GENERAL RESERVE AREA B:
it extends for 7.5 km and goes between the tip of the Portofino lighthouse and Punta Chiappa, with submerged cliffs of great naturalistic value covered with gorgonians, red coral and numerous species of fish, including many groupers. Here anchoring is prohibited and stopping is only allowed in the mooring areas. The speed of navigation must not exceed 5 knots and it is necessary to pass through the area at more than 100 m distance from the signal flags or from the moorings prepared for underwater activities. Fishing is prohibited throughout the protected marine area and any type of immersion unless authorized, or via diving.

PARTIAL RESERVE AREA C:
it extends for 6.5 Km; it goes to the sides of the promontory where there are prairies rich in animal life.
Here, anchoring and transit is regulated, in compliance with the ordinances of the Maritime District Office of Genoa and Santa Margherita Ligure.
